Internet traffic analysis firm Hitwise is running with a story that first appeared in Billboard about Wikipedia's rise as the top choice of destination for Web searches on music acts, and supporting it with some additional custom data. The firm lists the top 10 most-searched bands for the month of March, and lists how eight of them direct traffic to Wikipedia over MySpace.

It also expands the analysis to an aggregate of 300 bands, and finds Wikipedia draws more results traffic than MySpace by a factor of 2.4. Hitwise charts and graphics, as well as further analysis, available here.
