John Mayer's 2008 summer tour will begin July 2 at Milwaukee's Summerfest, has learned. The tour is presented by BlackBerry and features Colbie Caillat and Brett Dennen as support.

Tickets will be available to members of Mayer's "Local 83" fan club beginning Thursday (April 10), and to the general public beginning April 19. The tour will play primarily amphitheaters, wrapping Aug. 2 at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion near Houston.

Also this summer, a new CD/DVD & Blu-ray package from Mayer will hit stores, featuring a December 2007 show at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre. The as-yet-untitled project includes an acoustic performance, a full-band set and Mayer's performance with his Trio, featuring Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino.

BlackBerry also sponsored Mayer's 2007 tour, which grossed more than $30 million and moved 684,240 tickets, according to Billboard Boxscore. That sponsorship was a finalist for the 2007 Concert Marketing & Promotion Award at the Billboard Touring Conference in New York. The current BlackBerry/Mayer deal was brokered by Scott Clayton at Creative Artists Agency, Marcie Allen Cardwell, MAC Presents, Paul Kalbfleisch at RIM (BlackBerry), and Michael McDonald, Mayers' manager at Mick Management.
