Montreal's Simple Plan won the MuchMusic Video Award as the people's choice for favorite Canadian group, and Avril Lavigne took the favorite Canadian artist as the awards were handed out in a live telecast last night.

Rihanna took home best international video for "Don't Stop the Music," while Linkin Park was awarded best international video for "Bleed It Out."

Canadian band Hedley, "Dangerous" rapper Kardinal Offishall with Akon, and New Kids on the Block were among the acts that performed.

"The bands and celebs delivered an outstanding show, but the screaming fans made the night," says David Kines, senior VP of Much MTV Group. "This year, thousands of MuchMusic groupies got to reach out and touch their favorite stars. The energy topped any and every past MMVAs."
