Grammy-winning songwriter Harold Lilly Jr. will receive the 2008 Heroes and Legends (HAL) Award for his contributions to the music industry.

The presentation will take place during the 19th annual HAL Awards on Sept. 28 at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.

The former warehouse worker, who began pursuing his music career fulltime in 1999, has worked with Alicia Keys ("You Don't Know My Name"), Angie Stone ("Brotha"), Luther Vandross ("Take You Out") and Gerald Levert ("Made to Love Ya").

Hosted by actress JoMarie Payton (Disney's "The Proud Family"), the ceremony will also include scholarship presentations to students from the Southern California area.

The HAL Awards was established by veteran Motown songwriter Janie Bradford.
