British pop veteran Cliff Richard has scored a landmark physical singles sale as he celebrates 50 years on the chart.

Although the first week tally for "Thank You for a Lifetime" (EMI) -- 31,765 CD singles in a total sale of 33,376, according to the label -- is not historically large for the U.K. singles chart, Richard's fans' attachment to physical product means the track outsold the rest of the top 75 singles combined based on physical sales.

The U.K. singles chart is now so skewed towards downloads, Richard's 68th top ten hit sold more than the other 74 singles' combined physical sale of 30,204.

"Thank You for a Lifetime" debuted at No. 3 on the Official Charts Co.'s singles listing published Sept. 14. Kings of Leon's "Sex on Fire" (Hand Me Down/Sony BMG) eased ahead of the British singer to reach No. 1 with digital sales of 44,943, ahead of its physical release on Sept. 15.

Richard released an eight-CD box set "And They Said It Wouldn't Last -- My 50 Years in Music" via EMI on Sept. 15.
