Latin album sales dropped 21.1% in 2008, according to Nielsen SoundScan's year-end report, from 31.9 million units in 2007 to 25.1 million in 2008.

Only country and classical albums experienced a worse decline, with drops of 24% and 26%, respectively.

Of the top 100 mastertones sold in 2008, the highest-selling Latin title was Flex' "Te Quiero," with 454,000, followed by La Factoria's "Perdoname," with 214,000, according to Nielsen RingScan.

Regional Mexican act Grupo Montez de Durango scored the top-selling polyphonic ringtone of 2008, with "Adios Amor Te Vas," which sold 85,000 polyphonic units. However, polyphonics made up just 5% of all ringtone sales in 2008.
