Online playlisting service Muxtape has re-emerged, re-designed as a platform for bands to promote their music.

After failing to reach a licensing agreement with record labels, the site shut down for a few months with plans to re-launch. The new version allows artists to upload their own music, which users can then stream and organize into playlists as they like.

Participating artists will be able to establish profile pages, where their music will be stored, so long as they own the rights. It also has an embeddable media player and other services offered to both artists and users.

At launch, roughly 12 artists are participating, but the company says other artists will be allowed to sign up once it tests the new features. No details are yet available as to how, or even whether, the site will generate revenue, nor whether there is any cost to the artist to join.
