U.K. radio network Xfm has awarded alt-rock act Glasvegas its New Music Award.

The award from the taste-making modern rock station for the band's self-titled debut, released by Columbia, was based on the votes of a judging panel. Judges included New Order's Peter Hook and Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody.

The Glasgow quartet entered the U.K. album chart at No. 2 in September and the band was tipped for success this year in the U.S. and Europe in the "Best Bets" issue of Billboard (Jan. 24). The band played U.S. dates last month and will return to perform at SXSW in March.

The shortlist for the award also included albums by Foals, Laura Marling, the Last Shadow Puppets and the Ting Tings.
