Beyond the big news about the Ping social network and the new lineup of iPods, here are the other interesting bits from the company's annual media event today in San Francisco:

- Apple has shipped 120 million devices running the iOS operating system. That includes iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads.

- The new iOS 4.1 fixes several performance bugs, adds HD video uploading over WiFi, and adds Game Center: a gaming community hub where users can view leaderboards for various games and invite others to play multiplayer games.

- Apple cut the price of the Apple TV to $99 from $229, added 99-cent TV show rentals, and added streaming movie rentals from Netflix

- There have been 6.5 billion apps downloaded from the App Store since it launched. Currently there are 250,000 apps in the store, 25,000 of which are for the iPad. And 200 apps are downloaded every second.

- Oh, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin performed solo on the piano to close out the event.
