The Entravision network has flipped station KRRN-FM (92.7 FM) in Las Vegas, dropping its contemporary Spanish language AC format -- "Maria 92.7" romantica -- for "El Gato," an up-tempo regional Mexican mix that plays cumbia, banda and grupero music.
The new El Gato will also air key soccer matches, including matches palyed by the Mexican National team.
Entravision already has El Gato formats in Los Angeles and El Paso. The El Gato format clearly is directed more specifically to a regional Mexican listenership than "Maria," whose AC format was more broadbased.
Las Vegas' top-rated Spanish language station is KWID 101.9 FM, LA Buena (No. 3 in the city's general station rankings, according to Arbitron), which plays a very broad mix of music, from regional Mexican hits and standards, to Latin pop classics and even old songs by the Bee Gees.
Before the flip, KRRN was at No. 27 on the rankings.
