Skyrocketing 25-14 on Billboard's Social 50 chart, Beyoncé rallies to a new chart high with a 334% burst in new week-over-week plays on monitored social networks and 142% boost in views. The jump is owed to attention gained from her new single "Run the World (Girls)," the diva's first single from her forthcoming fourth studio album.
"Run the World" has earned 1.46 million YouTube views since its YouTube premiere April 21, and also lands at No. 33 on this week's Billboard Hot 100.
As well, Beyoncé released a video in support of First Lady Michelle Obama's campaign against childhood obesity called "Move Your Body." While neither song is on Vevo, other Beyonce videos on the site did see a 340% surge in plays.
The Social 50 ranks the most active artists on the world's leading social networking sites -- YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and iLike -- using a formula blending weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.
Paramore re-enters the tally at No. 26. For the week, they're up 94% in new Facebook fans, 7% in Twitter followers and 111% in YouTube channel views. The group has been touring relentlessly through South America and has since uploaded a behind-the-scenes highlight reel to YouTube. Also, frontwoman Hayley Williams graced the cover of May's issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, creating added buzz.
Notably, Cristina Grimmie, the famed Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber YouTube cover artist, falls 14-36, realizing a 37% decline in YouTube views and 34% setback in new fans.
After a five week run on the chart, viral sensation Rebecca Black slides off the Social 50 (she was No. 38 last week). She gained the highest debut ever (No. 9 on April 2) due to the storm surrounding her fluke hit single "Friday" but her online activity since cooled off. Black's Twitter followers reside at 200,000 and her video has racked up 121.7 million views. Currently, the singer is working on a five track mini-album follow up. To date, "Friday" has sold 215,000 digital downloads according to Nielsen SoundScan and received little radio airplay.
Back in the top 10, Shakira moves 6-4 with the success of her single "Rabiosa" featuring Pitbull, who himself (11-10) displaces Britney Spears (10-11) at No. 10. Justin Bieber holds strong at No.1, followed by the non-moving Lady Gaga and Rihanna. Eminem and Akon each fall one spot, to Nos. 5 and 6. Katy Perry, who reclaimed the No. 1 slot on the Hot 100 with her single "E.T," stays at No. 7. The Black Eyed Peas pivot 9-8 and Lil Wayne drops 8-9.
Re-entering the chart this week are the Beatles (No. 46), Kid Cudi (No. 48), 30 Seconds to Mars (No. 49), and the cast of "Glee" (No. 50).
