Many in the sports industry are still in shock from the Sunday death of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The tragic accident also touched the world of Country Music, as well.
The Big Machine Label Group - home to artists such as Taylor Swift - served as one of Wheldon's sponsors, and label head Scott Borchetta is a close friend of the family. In fact, Borchetta was with the family at University Medical Center in Las Vegas after Wheldon was transported there.
Yesterday afternoon, Borchetta issued a statement;
"Dan Wheldon was a dear friend and an incredible race driver. His family and friends were with him at the track today and he was surrounded by love. He was doing what all true racers love best. There is a massive hole in my heart but I am blessed to have shared in his life, his family and friends and his mighty racing accomplishments. "
Wheldon's death also touched many others in the music community, including Motley Crue bass player Nikki Sixx, who commented "R.I.P. Dan Wheldon ... He always seemed to be more than just a winner."
