On the heels of today's layoffs at Clear Channel Radio comes news that Los Angeles is the latest major-market Cumulus cluster to be hit with cutbacks, as the company streamlines staffing in the wake of its acquisition of Citadel Broadcasting.
KLOS program director Bob Buchmann has exited along with legendary evening host Jim Ladd. Production director Mike Sherry and local sales manager Vernon Copp were also let go, as was Howard Hoffman, the production director at sister station KABC-AM. According to reports the total number of cuts in the cluster might be as high as 20 or more.
The flurry of changes in Los Angeles comes right after staff reductions at WLS-AM/FM in Chicago that included Operations Director Michael La Crosse and eight other people.
The company has recently made similar cuts in New York, where 15 staffers were let go, and San Francisco where programmers Jack Swanson and Ken Berry, of KGO-AM and KSFO-AM respectively, fell victim to budget reductions.
