WIESBADEN - Germany's most prestigious media awards, the Bambi, were presented Thursday night, in a three-hour ceremony in Wiesbaden viewed by more six million television viewers. Notable winners included Lady Gaga in the International Pop cagtegory, Justin Bieber in the Entertainment category, and Gwyneth Paltrow in the International Movie category. altrow also hosted the event, with her English contributions simultaneously translated into German.

The Bambi Award, now in its 63rd year, is currently presented in 18 categories. Winners are selected by a jury comprising chief editors of the German Burda Media group, which publishes magazines Europe-wide. The German public television channel ARD broadcast the award show live.

Lady Gaga - acclaimed by the Bambi jury as "the most successful pop artist today, a queen of self-invention" - performed her song "Marry The Night." The jury went on to praise "her eccentric performances and videos, which she personally directs down to the tiniest detail."

Justin Bieber -- "a breaker of teenage hearts," the jury said, and "the first international star to come out of the Internet" -- performed "Only Thing I Ever Get For Christmas" from his chart toppig "Under the Misletoe" album

German duo Rosenstolz , who returned from a two-year absence this year with their album "Wir sind am Leben," were named Comeback of the Year and performed the album's title track at the show. Among other winners were German singer-songwriter Tim Bendzko (Newcomer of The Year), German rap star Bushido (in the "Integration" category), and Thomas Gottschalk, host of the popular entertainment show "Wetten, dass..?" (TV Event of the Year.) One jury member, in a statement, called Gottschalk "the king of the Saturday evening show and a constant guarantor of success."

Past multiple winners of the 11-inch-tall, five-and-a-half pound, golden-bronze Bambi deer trophy include Sophia Loren (nine awards), Rock Hudson (six awards) and soccer legend Franz Beckenbauer (five awards).
