Turntable.fm has teamed up with digital communications agency Horn Group, Inc., to host Tech the Halls, an online holiday fundraising campaign that will pit top media influencers against each other on the social music platform in a friendly DJ-off, to benefit One Laptop Per Child (OLPC).
The event, which takes place online Friday, December 16, will feature journalists from competing culture and tech publications deejaying head-to-head for audience votes. Organizers at Horn say they hope to raise $10,000 via crowdsourced donations to purchase 50 special laptops for disabled students across the United States.
"These computers are vital to empowering disabled students in an increasingly connected and digital world -- each laptop is a catalyst for helping previously marginalized children learn and transform the community around them," said Giulia D'Amico, OLPC's Director of Business Development, EU and Africa, in a statement. "We're tremendously excited to partner with Horn Group -- and by extension, the rest of the technology industry -- to help foster the next generation of leaders and innovators."
The money raised during the event will be donated to OLPC in the winner's name.
