The Music Masters Camp Series has announced it is adding a Women's Music Summit to its musician programs with a roster of female players that includes Kaki King, Meshell Ndegeocello, Melissa Auf der Maur and Marnie Stern. The event is slated for August 27-31 at the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY.
The Women's Music Summit is a 5-day camp offering musicians of all levels the chance to practice, perform, connect with and learn from female musicians through a variety of workshops, panels, Q&As, jam sessions and more. Additional musicians and music industry professionals will be announced before the event.
Other performers scheduled to participate in the Women's Music Summt include Bibi McGill and Malina Moye.
In a statement, Ndegeocello said she looks "forward to exchanging ideas with students and musicians alike... I often shy away from teaching but this environment feels special and open. I am looking forward to hearing and playing and experiencing the sounds that will come from all these musical women."
The Women's Music Summit is supported by the Guitar Center, Dean Markley, Fender, Girl Rock Nation, Lagunitas Brewery, Guitar World, Guitar Player, Bass Player, Keyboard Magazine, and Electronic Musician.
The event's producer is Laura B. Whitmore, a singer/songwriter and guitarist and veteran music industry marketer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She runs Mad Sun Marketing, writes a column for Guitar World focusing on female guitarists, and is the lead singer of the rock band Summer Music Project.
Other Music Master Camp Series scheduled this year include programs with Dweezil Zappa, Soulive, Richard Thompson, Medeski Martin & Wood, Todd Rundgren, Paul Gilbert, Umphrey's McGee, and more.
