Country star Phil Vassar has been released from his Arista Nashville contract and is signing with the newly reorganized Universal Records South.

Vassar has scored six top 5 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, including two No. 1s, "Just Another Day In Paradise" and "In A Real Love." His self-titled debut album has been certified gold.

As previously reported, producer and label veteran Mark Wright was recently installed as president of Universal South. The label's co-founders Tony Brown and Tim DuBois exited at the end of 2006.

Universal South is home to Joe Nichols, Shooter Jennings, Cross Canadian Ragweed and Katrina Elam.
