As James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem once said, “I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables. I hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars.”
So it goes in the dance music world, where so many DJs have turned to live instrumentation to create a more energetic and musical live vibe. Gorgon City are one such duo who came up in the dank London basement world, spinning and mixing dirty bass beats into a sweat-dripping good time well into the wee morning hours.
As they found success, they evolved and grew to incorporate drums, keys, singers, synthesizers, and all the fun stuff that turns an electronic act into a real live band. But despite landing several tracks on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and Dance Club Songs charts and playing alongside UK heroes Rudimental in NYC's Central Park, still, they missed the decks.
Gorgon City is stripping back down and returning to its roots with a 22-date North American and UK DJ tour. No live vocalists. No fancy drum pads. Just sick beats, dark rooms, and full dance floors. Branded the Kingdom Tour, Gorgon City wants to bring the vibe of its weekly Kingdom Radio on SiriusXM's Electric Area (Channel 52).
Look out for Gorgon City at one of the dates below, and watch out for a forthcoming EP of club tracks on Spanish label Saura in July.
