On Bad Royale's latest single, guest vocalist Silver is all “I'm surviving,” but the dancehall-lovin' foursome from California is downright thriving. Hot off a cool “trancehall” mash-up that brought Mad Decent and Anjunabeats together for a little Above & Beyond re-imagining, the band is happy to announce another sweet merger: with Polydor Records.
"This is a huge leap forward for us, and something we never really imagined happening when we first started Bad Royale in our living room,” the band says in an emailed statement about signing with Polydor. “Teaming up with Polydor, the home of some of the greatest musical acts through history, for the next chapter of our career is mind-blowing, and we couldn't be more ecstatic. We have a lot more to create and give, and the team we are working with at Polydor sees that in us too."
The move is marked with the band's latest single, a whistling, sunshiny tune called “All I Can Do,” featuring vocals from the aforementioned Caribbean singer Silver. It's warm and inviting, like grains of yellow sand on bare toes. It's a good first step into a future that puts Bad Royale on the same team as Selena Gomez, The Rolling Stones, Miley Cyrus and The Beatles.
”I’m very happy to welcome Bad Royale to Polydor,” the label's senior A&R manager Mikael Wadstrom says in an emailed statement. “Been a lot buzz around them with great remixes, releases & collaborations and touring – as well as their whole Carribean connection with the label setup in Trinidad. Great to be part of their journey going forward.”
