London Police Hunt Nightclub Acid Attacker

Two men remain in a serious but stable condition at a specialist burns unit after a “noxious substance” was sprayed inside a busy London nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning.

Twenty clubbers were injured in the attack at the Mangle E8 venue, according to Detective Inspector Lee McCullough from Hackney CID, who leads the investigation. "All have burn related injuries," McCullough said. Twelve of those required hospitalization with two men in their 20s now recovering in a burns hospital in Essex.

Police said an argument kicked off between two groups of people during the LoveJuice club night, with a male suspect spraying an acidic substance on two intended victims.

Met police on Tuesday issued CCTV footage of Arthur Collins, a 25-year-old minor celebrity who is dating Ferne McCann, star of the reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex.  An arrest warrant has been executed at the Hertfordshire home of Collins, who remains at large. Two other men are wanted for questioning in relation to the incident though no-one has been arrested.

Three cast members of The Only Way Is Essex -- Jamie Reed, Jade Lewis and Chloe Meadows -- were inside the club when the incident occurred, the BBC reports. Former Premier League soccer star and Celebrity Big Brother housemate Jamie O'Hara said his cousin, Sadie Wright, was among those hurt. “Sick that my cousin got burnt from this acid attack in Hackney. Innocent people get injured for the sick act of violence. Guy should get life,” he tweeted.

The venue was packed with about 600 people before the attack happened at 1am on Monday, at the tail end of the Easter Bank holiday. Some 600 party-goers were evacuated when emergency services arrived.

The promoters of LoveJuice tweeted that they’re cooperating with the investigation.
