As previously reported, Rae Sremmurd's "Black Beatles," featuring Gucci Mane, rises 2-1 for a seventh week atop the Billboard Hot 100 (dated Jan. 14). Meanwhile, Migos' "Bad and Boujee," featuring Lil Uzi Vert, blasts 13-2, driven in part by viral buzz, marking the first top 10 for each hip-hop act.
Who else makes notable moves on the latest Hot 100?
Jon Bellion, "All Time Low"
"Low" hits a new high on the Hot 100, jumping 24-16. Aided by a 69-cent sale price in the iTunes Store, as well as a robust tracking week of holiday shopping (further sparked by gift card redemptions), the song zooms 13-3 on the Digital Song Sales chart, up 216 percent to 117,000 downloads sold in the week ending Dec. 29, according to Nielsen Music. (All 50 titles on Digital Song Sales sport gains for the week.)
Shawn Mendes, "Mercy"
"Mercy" likewise hits the Hot 100's top 20, bounding 28-17. Similar to Bellion's bump, a 69-cent iTunes tag helps propel "Mercy" 14-2 on Digital Song Sales, as well as 8-1 on Pop Digital Song Sales (119,000, up 237 percent). (Despite "Mercy" boasting higher sales, and more airplay, than "Low," Bellion's song ranks a notch higher on the Hot 100 due to its notable lead between the two tracks in streaming.)
Niall Horan, "This Town"
Horan's debut solo single apart from One Direction reaches the Hot 100's top 20 in its 14th week on the chart (37-20), besting its prior No. 25 high logged in its second week (Oct. 22). Yet another 69-cent iTunes sale price helps push the song 15-10 on Digital Song Sales, as it tallies its best weekly sales so far (102,000, up 189 percent).
Sia feat. Sean Paul, "Cheap Thrills"
The collab topped the Hot 100 for four weeks in August. So why is it the top Airplay Gainer now, in its 46th week on the chart? As radio stations annually recap hits on year-end countdowns and retrospectives, "Thrills" receives the greatest audience boost, increasing by 32 percent to 67 million impressions, and rebounds 14-11 on Radio Songs, which it topped for eight weeks in August-October. On the Hot 100, the song climbs 36-30.
The song with the second-greatest surge in airplay audience? Another 2016 smash, Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling!," which roars 32-25 on the Hot 100 and 27-16 on Radio Songs (52 million, up 39 percent). "Feeling" debuted atop the May 28-dated Hot 100 and went on to crown Radio Songs for five weeks beginning June 18.
Kaleo, "Way Down We Go"
The Icelandic group makes its Hot 100 debut, at No. 98, more than a year after the track first charted on Hot Rock Songs. In its 36th week on the latter list, it hits a new high, rising 7-6.
Olivia O'Brien, "Love U Hate U"
O'Brien bows with her own version of the song, after the original (now at No. 31), with gnash as the lead artist, hit No. 10 in October. The new solo take sold 39,000 in the tracking week -- just above the original, at 38,000.
And, while it's rare for an artist to chart two versions of a song simultaneously, it's not unprecedented. Flashing back seven years to the Hot 100 dated Jan. 2, 2010, Jay Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind" dropped to No. 2 after five weeks at No. 1. At No. 55, Keys debuted with her piano-ballad interpretation, titled "Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down."
