Pet Shop Boys blast in at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart (dated April 23) with Super. The set starts with 10,000 sold, according to Nielsen Music, just short of the 11,000 that the pair's previous album, Electric, scanned in its first week in August 2013. Super, however, is the Boys' first No. 1 on Top Dance/Electronic Albums in 13 years, since Disco 3 led the list in February 2003. The Stuart Price-produced Super is the English duo's third total No. 1; Release first sent PSB to the top in 2002. (The chart launched in 2001.)
On the all-genre Billboard 200, Super starts at No. 58, marking Pet Shop Boys' 18th charted entry. The twosome first reached the ranking almost 30 years ago, when its sole top 10, the eventual No. 7-peaking Please, debuted at No. 38 (April 19, 1986). That set yielded the act's debut Billboard Hot 100 No. 1, "West End Girls," along with three other Hot 100 hits: the No. 10-peaking "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money)," as well as "Love Comes Quickly" and "Suburbia."
In keeping with tradition, Super, like all Pet Shop Boys original studio albums (excluding compilations), sports a one-word title.
Pet Shop Boys (Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe) are also on the cusp of scoring their first No. 1 on Dance Club Songs in nearly seven years with Super's first single, "The Pop Kids," which advances 3-2. They last topped the chart with "Did You See Me Coming?" in November 2009, marking their 10th No. 1, to go along with 29 top 10s and 40 total chart hits.
'DOWN' IS UP: On Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, another duo is on the cusp of the coveted No. 1 spot: The Chainsmokers, as "Don't Let Me Down," featuring Daya, darts 4-2, closing in on what could be the pair's second leader this year. The tandem of Andrew Taggert and Alex Pall previously spent 14 weeks at No. 1 beginning in January with "Roses," featuring Rozes.
"Don't," the chart's top Airplay, Digital, and Streaming Gainer honoree, becomes The Chainsmokers' second No. 1 on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs (3-1), up by 11 percent to 8.3 million U.S. streams. The track also reaches a new weekly sales high (45,000 downloads, up 8 percent), as it holds at No. 2 on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs. "Don't" also becomes the act's fourth top 10 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay (11-4).
Additionally, The Chainsmokers' "Inside Out," featuring Charlee, bows at No. 13 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. With sales of 11,000, the cut enters Dance/Electronic Digital Songs at No. 6.
NOT FADING AWAY: English-Norwegian DJ Alan Walker reaches the top 10 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with his first single, "Faded" (11-10). The song sold 8,000 downloads and was streamed 3 million times in the U.S. in the tracking week.
PERFECT 10s: On Dance/Mix Show Airplay, two songs rise to the top 10. Flume flies 12-8 with "Never Be Like You," featuring Kai, marking the first top 10 for each act. The track also surges 13-9 on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs (3.2 million, up 29 percent) and enters the Hot 100 at No. 98.
Plus, G-Eazy and Bebe Rexha soar 25-9 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay with "Me, Myself & I." The new No. 1 on the Pop Songs airplay chart owes its dance and pop mix show radio success to club-ready remixes from Marc Stout and Scott Svejda. Rapper G-Eazy posts his first top 10 on the tally, while singer Rexha collects her third, and first as a lead. As a featured vocalist, she reached No. 2 in 2013 on Cash Cash's "Take Me Home," and No. 3 in 2015 on David Guetta's "Hey Mama," also featuring Nicki Minaj and Afrojack.
