Grande’s new horn-driven, feisty cut climbed to No. 1 on the survey after the one-two punch of its commercial release and music video premiere first thing on Oct. 30. But, this No. 1 trip isn’t the first time “Focus” has crowned the tally -- it climbed to the top on Oct. 6 and Oct. 9, as part of Grande’s social media countdown ahead of the song’s release. Thanks to the stream of publicity -- including the single cover art boasting a platinum-blond Grande -- and the star’s 33.5 million Twitter followers, “Focus” has charted on the Trending 140 every day since Oct. 3.
Grande will debut “Focus" live on Friday night during her Ariana Grande World Premiere Event on the Honda Stage concert at Los Angeles’ iHeart Radio Theatre. “Focus” was co-written by Grande and Savan Kotecha, and is produced by Max Martin, who crafted two prior hits for the singer, “Problem” and “Break Free.” Both singles reached the top five of the Billboard Hot 100.
The single previews Grande’s third studio album, Moonlight, due out in 2016. The set follows 2014’s My Everything, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
