Meek Mill is the new top musical act in the U.S., vaulting to No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 (dated July 18), as the arrival of his new album fuels his vault to the top. The rapper dethrones Taylor Swift, who drops to No. 2 after spending a record 31st nonconsecutive week at No. 1.
The Artist 100 is the first weekly survey dedicated to measuring artist activity across Billboard's most influential charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, Top Album Sales and the Social 50. The Artist 100 blends data measuring album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
Meek Mill (real name: Robert Rahmeek Williams) vaults 72-1 on the Artist 100 with a 1,267 percent gain in overall activity, according to Nielsen Music. Album sales account for 78 percent of his points on the chart, as his new set Dreams Worth More Than Money bows at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart with 215,000 copies sold.
Swift slips to No. 2 on the Artist 100 with a 10 percent overall dip. Airplay, digital song sales and album sales share a fairly even split of her greatest drivers of activity.
