The Foo Fighters have had to cancel Friday night's charity fundraising concert in Auckland following a "serious accident" in which equipment was wrecked and a crew member was injured.

According to a post shared by Michael Gudinski's Frontier Touring Company, a truck carrying essential band equipment was involved in an accident whilst traveling from Christchurch to Auckland. The show at Auckland Town Hall is now canceled, though "thankfully the driver is expected to be ok," Frontier notes.

The specialized equipment on the truck was "so badly damaged it cannot be used," the statement continues. Replacement gear is being flown from L.A. to Auckland for Saturday night's show at Mt Smart Stadium which, at this stage, will go ahead as planned.

When the Foo Fighters announced its Sonic Highways Tour of Australia and New Zealand, the plan was for the band to play strictly arenas and stadiums. They recently slotted-in the intimate show in Auckland to help generate funds for the New Zealand Music Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that facilitates music-based projects in youth organizations, hospices, schools, medical charities and rehab centers. Naturally, refunds are being offered to ticket-holders for the scrapped date.

Foo Fighters Announce Stadium Shows Down Under

The Foos have a reputation for supporting good causes in this part of the world. In March 2011, the rockers played a three-hour set at the Town Hall in support of the Christchurch earthquake appeal, and a separate show in Brisbane to raise money for victims of Queensland's floods. The two shows raised upwards of $1 million combined.

The group has just won the best international band category at the NME Awards, and they're confirmed as a headline act for this June's Glastonbury Festival in the U.K. Their Australasian tour kicked-off Wednesday at Christchurch's AMI Stadium.
