Executive VP, Capitol Music Group

In her first year since moving to the label side of the street, Michelle Jubelirer, a former music industry lawyer with King Holmes Paterno & Berliner, has already hit the ground running. That’s a particularly admirable feat, considering she didn’t land at an established label but one that’s being rebuilt. As executive VP of Capitol Music Group, Jubelirer says that this year has been all about laying the foundation—next year will concern seeing the results that Capitol’s reinvigoration yields. In the meantime, she says she’s still learning about the label business, but calls CMG chairman/CEO Steve Barnett and the label’s staff the equivalent of working at the “Wharton School of entertainment.” And yet, even as it rebuilds, according to Nielsen SoundScan’s latest industry market-share numbers, including track-equivalent albums, Capitol ranks fourth with a 6.96% share. At Capitol, Jubelirer oversees business and legal affairs, A&R administration and release planning departments, and the Capitol labels Astralwerks, Blue Note, Harvest, Priority, 2101 Records (RedOne) and Troy Carter’s Atom Factory, as well as indie distributor Caroline. Executives who have worked with Jubelirer describe her as energetic and motivating, and say she’s brought creative deals to Capitol through her extensive industry contacts. “She has a great business affair pedigree,” one Universal Music Group executive says, “and she is dialed in to a lot of people.” —Ed Christman
