David Israelite is President and CEO of the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA), which he has run since 2005. Over the past decade and a half, has has transformed the century-old organization, overseeing its move to Washington DC, a series of landmark copyright infringement lawsuits on behalf of publishers, and a significant rise in rates from the Copyright Royalty Board. He played a key role in lobbying for the Music Modernization Act, and helped establish the industry-backed MLC as the entity that would supervise the royalty collection and distribution that law calls for. Before he joined the NMPA, Israelite worked in government, including at the Justice Department, where he ran the Task Force on Intellectual Property.
