Alexei Barrionuevo is the international editor at <em>Billboard</em>. He is a journalist and documentary filmmaker with almost three decades of experience as an international correspondent, editor and columnist. Before joining <em>Billboard</em>, the Chicago native directed an independent documentary, <em>Waiting for the Drop</em>, about the EDM music explosion in the United States, which screened at the Santa Barbara (Calif.) International Film Festival. He served as the Brazil bureau chief for <em>The New York Times</em>, overseeing coverage of politics, culture and the economy of five countries in South America. Before that he worked as a business correspondent based in Chicago for the <em>Times</em>, where he won a Publisher’s Award for his coverage of the Enron criminal trial in Houston. Alexei also spent six years as a staff writer for <em>The Wall Street Journal</em>, covering the global energy industry from Houston and European antitrust and regulation while based in Brussels. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Alexei also speaks Spanish and Portuguese.
