Brooklyn's experimental rock duo Lushes feature James Ardery on vocals, guitar, and synth and Joel Myers on drums and electronic percussion. As Lushes, they combine Ardery's punk roots with Myers' more studious background, which included borrowing CDs of Rachmaninov and Bach from his classically trained organist father and teaching himself to play classical piano. Evoking such post-rock greats as Slint and June of 44 as well as contemporaries like Liars and Battles, Lushes' debut album What Am I Doing? -- which was produced by Bachelorette's Annabel Alpers -- arrived in March 2014. Myers and Ardery recruited engineer Aaron Mullan as well as members of Zs, PC Worship, and Parquet Courts for Service Industry, a rawer, more confrontational set that was released in October 2015. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
