Happy Birthday, Liv Tyler! Celebrate With 3 Musical Moments
Liv Tyler was destined for stardom -- thanks in part to the DNA she inherited from her mother, model Bebe Buell, and father, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. She began modeling at age 14 and transitioned into acting, appearing in TV commercials, an infamous '90s rock music video (see below) and even a few Academy Award-winning films.
These three musical moments prove that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Interested in following in her famous footsteps? Take note of her career path:
1. Co-star as a video babe in a music video
Aerosmith's "Crazy" music video (1993)
Two schoolgirls (played by Liv Tyler and Alicia Silverstone) cut class and get themselves into all kinds of shenanigans.
First things first: freedom. Lose the school uniform while driving off campus in a convertible with the top down. Lip-sync to your fave jam -- in this case, a song by Liv Tyler's father, Steven Tyler. Make a pit stop to fill 'er up at a sketchy gas station/convenience store where the dopey clerk fully supports stealing. Reward him by taking topless pics with your BFF in a photo booth and handing him the photos on your way out. Next, sign-up for amateur night at the strip club, where first prize is 500 "big ones." In this case, the memorable act incorporates a stripper pole, a dash of gender-bending, a silver bra and a scene in which Tyler not only lip-syncs once again to her father's song, but this time throws in a few of his signature dance moves. The next day, pick up a handsome stranger, go skinny-dipping in a lake and drive off into the sunset.
"Crazy" peaked at No. 17 on the Hot 100 chart.
2. Co-star in a film that becomes a cult classic
"Empire Records" (1995)
Employees of an indie record store find out that their store might be absorbed by a larger chain (down with Music Town!) while also juggling love, shoplifters -- and, of course, "Rex Manning Day."
Tyler shines as the studious virgin Corey Mason who displays a wide range of emotions at work. Between dealing with her friend's suicide attempt, fighting "the man," her BFF stabbing her in the back and learning that one of her friends was secretly in love with her -- the girl had a lot going on.
3. Cover an '80s classic
Tyler made her singing debut by covering INXS' "Need You Tonight" in honor of the release of Very Irrésistible Givenchy Electric Rose perfume. She put an electric spin on the track and looked mighty sexy in the black-and-white video.
INXS' version peaked at No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart.
We should also note that Tyler starred in the 1998 thriller Armageddon, which featured Aerosmith's smash hit "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing." The song peaked at No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart.
