Pharrell brought a taste of "Freedom" to the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards with his latest outlandish performance.

The hit-making singer and producer performed "Freedom," a socially conscious track, outside of the Orpheum Theater in downtown Los Angeles, as the third and final outdoor performance of the night. Pharrell delivered his latest single in an energetic, spirited fashion amid a sea of waving flags and a crowd of background dancers with matching striped outfits.

John Legend introduced the performance with a brief but impassioned speech about music's connection to social causes, citing Nina Simone, Bob Dylan and Paul Robeson as historical inspirations.
