'N Sync, Matchbox Twenty, and More—Tracks That Take You Back To Summer of 2000

2000 was first the year of a new millennium! We all started playing PS1 games on our Playstation 2 consoles, taking pictures on camera phones, and the London Eye was constructed, making it the World’s largest observation wheel. As we celebrated the beginning of the new era, there were some very memorable soundtracks of the year to go along with it

We'll breakdown 2000, but you can relive all your summer anthems year by year:   1995 | 1996 | 1997 | 1998 | 1999 | 2000 | 2001 | 2002 | 2003 | 2004 | 2005 | 2006 | 2007 | 2008 | 2009 | 2010 | 2011 | 2012 | 2013

"It's Gonna Be Me" - 'N Sync

American boy band ‘N Sync consisted of five vocalists, including ever-popular singer Justin Timberlake. Timberlake dons a distinct 2000 trend in the video: a tie dye-look denim suit. He continued this fashion when he appeared several times in full denim attire with his partner at the time, Britney Spears, who matched his look. “It’s Gonna Be Me” generated a spring-themed meme called “It’s Gonna Be May."

"Bent" - Matchbox Twenty

“Bent” became the only Billboard Hot 100 number one for alternative rock band Matchbox Twenty. The US four-piece formed in 1995, and we swooned over Rob Thomas, who was the lead singer and primary songwriter. “Bent” takes us all back to those summer days in 2000 when we loaded up Matchbox Twenty on our mp3 player and listened to hopeful guitar riffs through our headphones.

"Doesn't Really Matter" - Janet Jackson

Michael Jackson’s sister Janet released “Doesn’t Really Matter” in May 2000. The electropop song stayed at the top of the charts for weeks and became Janet’s ninth number one. The music video focused on advanced technology and futuristic scenes with a twist of Japanese culture...including a levitating platform which Jackson danced on!

"Jumpin', Jumpin'" - Destiny's Child

The Beyonce/Kelly/Michelle collaboration that was Destiny’s Child came forth with the incredibly catchy “Jumpin’, Jumpin’” in the new millennium. The track spent weeks in the top ten, and Beyonce showed off her famous locks styled in loose waves in the video as she raced a car around at night. It was just one of those tunes that made everyone want to dance, wherever they were! Girl power.

"Incomplete" - Sisqo

American R&B artist Sisqo released the ballad “Incomplete” in July 2000, hitting the top of the charts with its heart-wrenching lyrics and soulful vibes. Throwback to the days of singing along to this song in your bedroom mirror, with a hairbrush as a microphone. Sisqo was also known for his track “Thong Song,” which we all knew secretly knew the words to, of course.

2000 was also the year that The Sims game was released. While we logged hours of gameplay trying to build a dream house on very little budget and getting our Sims in a relationship, we realized that it was difficult to find the time for them to simply brush their teeth before going to work. Hoorah for all the Sims cheats that we would memorize in order for our characters to succeed!
