The HBO series returns on March 15.
The good news is that HBO's future shock android drama Westworld is back in less than a month (March 15). The bad news, at least based on the chilling trailer that dropped on Thursday morning (Feb. 20), is that things are about to get really, really tense in season three of the retelling of the pleasure park series from Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.
The nearly three-minute teaser opens with a haunting voiceover from diehard 'bot Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood), who says, "I was born into this world, and my first memories of it are pain." That leads to a quick-cut of series regulars Jeffrey Wright (Bernard Lowe) and Tessa Thompson (Charlotte Hale), as well as menacing newcomer Aaron Paul, who pops up next to a towering, Terminator-like robot as Dolores reveals that this season the androids are crossing over into the human world.
In another welcome return, just over a minute into the trailer, as Thandie Newton's Maeve Millay gets orders to track Dolores down composer Ramin Djawadi serves up another of his signature ominous piano covers of a classic rock tune with his creeping take on Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine." Opening with the song's signature intro on piano instead of guitar, the driving cover picks up pace as we see the seeming return of The Man in Black (Ed Harris), with the strings swelling to a crescendo as Dolores warns, "the real gods are coming, and they're very angry."
