Gwen Stefani stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday (Sept. 23) to chat about the new season of The Voice and her relationship with fellow coach Blake Shelton.

Competing for her fourth season as a full-time coach, the singer explained that choosing teams gets as competitive as ever this year -- especially against her country star boyfriend.

“I tried pulling all of those things out,” Stefani said when asked by host Jimmy Fallon whether she used her relationship with Shelton to her advantage. “At the end of the day, I want to win too! You know, I’m not actually super competitive but when it comes to people’s dreams, you get really attached.”

The pop star also explained her decision to block Shelton from being able to choose contestant Kyndal Indskeep during Monday night’s Season 17 premiere.

“So I blocked Blake and that was really exciting,” she told Fallon of her power move. “Because I knew that me and Blake have similar tastes in, like, voices and I knew this girl was very original, very, very cool, and I knew he was gonna push.”
