Swedish songstress Zara Larsson made her return to the Today show stage with “Ruin My Life” on Monday (Nov. 5), ahead of her forthcoming 2019 album. The 20-year-old pop singer’s latest single finds her longing for an unhealthy relationship.
Larsson stood out from her six-piece band dressed in all black by sporting a bleach blonde bob, lavender mini-dress and silver heels. A hazy electric guitar drove her into the opening verse.
“I miss you pushing me close to the edge,” Larsson sang in her velvety voice, “I miss you/ I wish I knew what I had when I left/ I miss you.”
The energy slowly heated up, taking a pause during the first half of the chorus. “I want you to ruin my life/ You to ruin my life, you to ruin my life, yeah,” Larson continued, “I want you to ruin my nights/ you to ruin my nights, yeah, all of my nights, yeah/ I want you to bring it all on/ If you make it all wrong, that'll make it all right, yeah/ I want you to ruin my life/ You to ruin my life, you to ruin my life.”
The sound came alive, the band playing with spirit as the stage lit up in an optimistic yellow hue. The flurry concluded with Larson reaching for a few last lofty notes as she moved to the music.
“I’m really living my dream,” she said in the clip. “I’ve been doing this for such a long time, and I’m really excited to have another song out.”
