The Pistol Annies — the country supergroup made up of Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley — charmed The Tonight Show with the velvety “Best Years of My Life” off their new album Interstate Gospel on Thursday night (Nov. 2).

The Nashville country trio opened the ballad softy, with Monroe strumming her guitar and crooning, “I picked a good day for a recreational Percocet/ I’ve got an itch to just get high/ I’m in the middle of the worst of it/ These are the best years of my life.”

Presley’s warm voice took over, reflecting on the false illusion of the life they imagined versus the more grim reality of right now: “I’ve got the hankering for intellectual emptiness/ I’ve got the need to ease my mind/ I’ll watch some re-runs on the TV set/ These are the best years of my life.”

Lambert took the third, regretful chorus, “I was looking forward to/ Staying here forever/ ‘Cause you asked me to/ Didn't think that I could do better/ So I settled down/ In this ten-cent town/ It's about to break me.” The trio made news earlier this week when they dropped the provocative video for "Got My Name Changed Back," in which they take take a visit to the courthouse to get their divorce papers finalized.
