Some of the music world's greatest mysteries will be probed on an upcoming eight-episode Netflix docuseries called ReMastered, which will debut on Oct. 12.

The first episode, "Who Shot the Sheriff," will focus on the 1976 assassination attempt of reggae icon Bob Marley in the midst of highly contentious political campaign, including questions about whether the CIA was involved in the incident. That episode will feature commentary from fellow reggae legend Jimmy Cliff as well as former Jamaican Prime Minister Edward Seaga.

According to a press release announcing the investigative series, it was created by Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning brothers Jeff and Michael Zimbalist (Favela Rising), with new installments slated to air monthly. Among the directors on tap are: Kief Davidson (The Ivory Games), Barbara Kopple and Sara Dosa (Harlan County USA), Brian Oakes (Abstract), Stuart Sender (Harmony: A New Way of Looking at Our World), B.J. Perlmutt (Havana Motor Club), Kelly Duane de la Vega (Better This World) and Sam Cullman (If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front).

The November episode, "Tricky Dick and the Man in Black," will zoom in on Johnny Cash's head-scratching 1972 visit to the Nixon White House, while December will focus on the unsolved murder of Run-DMC's Jam Master Jay ("Who Killed Jam Master Jay?"), January will look at the politically motivated murder of "Chilean Bob Dylan" Victor Jara ("Massacre at the Stadium") and February probes the mystery around soul icon Sam Cooke's 1964 murder by a hotel manager ("The Two Killings of Sam Cooke").

Other episodes will uncover the story behind the killing of the British band The Miami Showband in 1974 ("The Miami Showband Massacre"), the short, mysterious life of bluesman Robert Johnson ("Devil at the Crossroads") and, in May, the quest to find the original authors of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" in "Lion's Share."
