Watch Ed Sheeran's 'Simpsons' Cameos From the 'La La Land' Parody Episode
While the main crop of last nights' (Jan. 7) viewers situated in front of the television to watch the Golden Globes, some tuned in to FOX to catch Ed Sheeran's cartoon cameo on The Simpsons. Sheeran plays Brendan Beiderbecke, a ginger-haired jazz pianist -- whose last name takes that of the 1920's American Jazz composer Bix Beiderbecke -- and love interest of Lisa. The latest episode of the animated show's 29th season was a parody on the musical film La La Land.
Starting the jokes off from the top, the episode was titled "Haw-Haw Land," a mashup of the La La Land title and the signature obnoxious laugh of the town bully, Nelson. The episode begins with the Simpson family taking a trip to attend a STEM conference, where, Lisa meets (and subsequently falls in love with) a sneakily pompous, British Brendan. In a nod to the La La Land plot, Lisa finds herself in a dangerous love triangle with Nelson and Sheeran's character, and can't decide on either because quite frankly, they both aren't worthy.
Sheeran's character is an immensely talented pianist but maintains a braggadocios personality through the episode, which throws Lisa off. Among other things, Bart spends time away from the musical drama, and invests in his newfound and unexpected passion, chemistry. The teen spends the episode spiking teachers drinks, and making dangerous potions.
