Simon Cowell missed the first live episodes of the current season of X Factor UK in England on Saturday (Oct. 28) and Sunday (Oct. 29), following injuries sustained in a fall at his home the day before.

While no additional information was available at press time about Cowell's condition, in the hours after the accident a spokesperson for the America's Got Talent judge confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the 58-year-old talent spotter had fallen down the steps of his London home after waking in the middle of the night feeling dizzy. Cowell was spotted being loaded into an ambulance wearing a neck brace, but at press time no update was available on his injuries.

According to British media reports, Cowell's fainting was caused by previously undisclosed low blood pressure. In an interview with The Sun, Cowell reportedly said, “Sometimes we get a reminder that we’re not invincible and this was certainly mine. It was a huge shock. They think I fainted because I had low blood pressure and so I have got to really take good care of myself to sort that out. After all I am a dad and have more responsibility than ever.” A spokesperson for Cowell confirmed the details of the Sun interview.

Cowell described the details of the incident to the paper, saying he had gotten up in the middle of the night to get some hot milk because he was feeling "ropey," and recalls feeling "really dizzy" on his way back up the stairs.

“Next thing I know someone was putting a neck brace on me and I had a terrible headache, which must have been from me hitting the stairs," he explained. "I was worried at first that I’d done some real damage. But I’m on the mend now. I know I was very lucky I didn’t hurt myself seriously. It could have been a lot worse. I must say, everyone at the hospital were incredible. I’m truly grateful.”

The rest of the X Factor panel carried on in his absence, with Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger holding down the fort on Saturday and Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon joining on Sunday.
