Usher, Luke Evans Battle James Corden in Sexiest Vocalists Alive Riff-Off on 'Late Late Show': Watch
Like so many of us, James Corden isn't pleased with the lack of sensual vocals in today's music ("I've done my part," he said. "I'm bringing sexy back to late night"). So, after overhearing Corden call himself the sexiest male vocalist alive, Usher came out to set things straight during Thursday night's (Oct. 12) episode of The Late Late Show.
"Well I'm alive," Usher offered. "Let's be honest: when people imagine smooth, sensual, sexual, soulful voices, you know, are they gonna picture a guy like you or do they think of a guy like me -- Usher?"
This, of course, called for a riff-off.
"Are you sure you're ready for this? Because let me tell you -- it's about to get sensual in a way that I don't think you understand," Corden warned Ush before launching into K-Ci & JoJo's super sexy "All My Life." Usher, no stranger to the game, clapped back by suggesting "someone get this guy a Tic Tac" after Corden sang a bit too closely up in his face. He then sang his own rendition of Marvin Gaye's "Mercy Mercy Me," which made the crowd squeal in delight.
"Peace up," Usher said. "A-town down. Just wiped the floor with Corden." Corden didn't take kindly to that, prompting some bickering between the two before Dracula Untold actor Luke Evans came out to settle things down. "I'm sorry, but do you guys think this is sexy?" Evans asked. "Because there's nothing sexy about what's happening here."
Evans threw his voice in the ring by crushing Foreigner's mega-ballad "I Want to Know What Love Is." "Well, well, well," Corden said after Evans finished, "OK, OK -- I guess what they say is true. No one sings like Gaston." (Evans plays Gaston in Beauty and the Beast.)
