If it wasn’t apparent yet, RuPaul’s Drag Race has solidified itself as a fixture in today’s pop culture. On last night’s (May 6) episode of Saturday Night Live, the show featured a skit centered around the phenomenon -- and how the show is attracting unsuspected fans. Trinity Taylor, one of the current contestants on the show, was name-dropped several times, and she spoke exclusively to Billboard about what it was like to be mentioned on the iconic show.

Did you know that SNL had planned on having a skit centering around Drag Race?
No, absolutely not. I was actually in the bathroom of my hotel last night, getting ready for a show. I was on Instagram Live and my cast member Alexis Michelle was in the chat and she was like, ‘Oh my god! They mentioned you on SNL! Turn it on right now.’ I couldn’t because I didn’t know what channel it was, but I was so surprised.

I thought that they had maybe just said my name with the rest of the girls, but then I watched the skit and saw that they said my name several times and it made my whole week.

In the skit, they described a tuck as being “when you tape your hotdog down between your buns so you have that flat crotch illusion.” How accurate was that description?
You know, they must have had to do a lot of research. I give them an A+.

Absolutely! They even mentioned how it moved from Logo to VH1. The attention to detail was next-level. Who would you say won the lip sync: Chris Pine or Bobby Moynihan?
It wouldn’t have mattered what Chris did, he would have won that lip sync challenge. I didn’t even have to watch it. I would have been that shady queen who let him win just because he’s so beautiful.

Gay men and straight women seem to be the biggest fans of the show, but have you had interactions with straight male fans?
Completely. It’s so crazy seeing how diverse the Drag Race fandom is. At DragCon, I just met so many straight men that were with their girlfriends and wives that were just giddy at the fact that they were meeting me. It’s crazy to see how many straight male fans there are -- and children: these little bitty kids. It’s crazy.

Who is your all-time favorite cast member on SNL?
I love Molly Shannon. She is so great. I loved the 'Superstar' skits. That character is hysterical. And she’s not afraid to be ugly. I relate to that!

When can we see you hosting SNL?
I just tweeted them today. I think they need to do a part two of this skit so I can be in it. That would be amazing: me and RuPaul!
