Watch James Corden, Tim Minchin, Ben Platt & Abigail Spencer in 'Donald: The Musical'
It might take a few years for a real Donald Trump musical to hit Broadway, but on Monday night (March 20), James Corden gave us the next best thing on The Late Late Show, his original production of Donald: The Musical. The premise was simple: he gathered an all-star cast featuring Timeless star Abigail Spencer, Broadway Groundhog Day composer Tim Minchin and Dear Evan Hansen star Ben Platt to portray starry-eyed, younger versions of Trump, Sean Spicer, Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway singing one of Minchin's signature songs, Matilda's "When I Grow Up."
Sitting on a giant set of swings, the leader of the free world, his spokesperson, chief strategist and presidential counselor shared their dreams, with Minchin (as Trump) crooning: "When I grow up, I will be president and build big walls, ban Muslims and grab Putin's balls." Platt, as Spicer, added, "I'll be press secretary of this land/ And lie about sizes of crowds and hands/ Ignore climate change until earth is blown up."
Wearing a pair of short Bannon pants, Corden sang, "And when I grow up/ I will be chief strategist/ So I can put my Breitbart fist inside by puppet's inside bits," while Spencer tucked her legs up to belt, "And I will wake up/ To see tweets he wrote at 4 a.m./ That I will then have to defend."
Check out the rest of their scary, but highly hummable future vision:
