SpongeBob Fans Are Convinced 'Sweet Victory' Is Involved With Maroon 5's Super Bowl Halftime Show
Could SpongeBob SquarePants fans score a "Sweet Victory" at this year's Super Bowl after all?
Eagle-eyed Twitter users have noticed that the titular character from SpongeBob Squarepants briefly appears in Maroon 5’s teaser trailer of their halftime show at SuperBowl LIII at around the 0:32 mark. Naturally, they're hoping this means the anthem “Sweet Victory” -- as seen in the “Band Geeks” episode where Squidward directs the amateur band of volunteers to perform at the coincidentally-named Bubble Bowl -- will make it into Maroon 5’s setlist.
The hopeful idea comes on the heels of a Change.org petition that called for the Super Bowl to honor SpongeBob’s creator, Stephen Hillenburg, earlier this month. The petition currently has over one million signatures.
The 2019 Super Bowl is happening at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, G.A. on Sunday, Feb. 3. For now, see some of the most entertaining tweets about the theory below.
