Lorde, Have Mercy: Lorde re-emerged from a brief hiatus this week when her pairing with Disclosure, “Magnets” received a full release and music video. The sinister clip features Lorde stealing another woman’s man, but only to enact sweet revenge on the not-so-angelic, abusive boyfriend. The video helped the track leap to No. 1 on the Trending 140 upon its release on Sept. 29. “Magnets” marks Lorde’s first major music release since curating the soundtrack to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 1 last year. The track features on Disclosure’s new album, Caracal, which was released Sept. 25. In addition to their collaboration with Lorde, the set also features vocals from The Weeknd, Sam Smith and Miguel, among others.

Don’t ‘Mind’ Ellie: Another international star, Ellie Goulding, climbed to No. 1 on the Trending 140 with her new single “On My Mind.” The pop track reached the top spot upon release on Sept. 18, and maintained its chart run following its music video debut on Sept. 21. The clip, inspired partly by Thelma & Louise, sees Ellie rolling into Las Vegas, tying up a fellow and making off with his money. Ellie also took over social airwaves this week after playing Instant Karaoke on the U.K. radio station Capital F.M., During her appearance, the British songstress tackled Destiny’s Child’s “Independent Women, Part I” and Little Mix’s “Black Magic,” among others. “On My Mind” previews her new album Delirium, available Nov. 6.

Sia Comes ‘Alive’: Meanwhile, Sia launched “Alive” on Sept. 25, her first single from her new album This is Acting. The cut generated additional buzz after Sia revealed Adele serves as one of the single’s co-writers and that the British hitmaker originally planned to record the song before deciding to pass on it. Still, “Alive” darted directly to No. 1 on the Trending 140, continuing the string of chart toppers from her previous album, 1000 Forms of Fear. In addition to the potential Adele song “Alive,” Sia revealed in a Beats 1 Radio interview that This Is Acting features an array of songs originally meant for other artists, including Beyonce and Rihanna.

The Trending 140 chart measures the acceleration of conversation around artists and their music, while the Emerging Artists chart measures the volume of tweets around new artists and their songs.
