So what was happening on the Real-Time Charts this week?

On May 21, Hunter Hayes debuted the lead single, "21," from his upcoming third album. The release followed a series of 21 black squares Hayes tweeted, a move which got the track to the No. 2 spot on the Trending 140 that day.

The album follow 2014’s Storyline, which had the Grammy-nominated hit "Invisible." Hayes performed "21" for the first time on The View on May 27.

"Girl Crush" by Little Big Town returns to the No. 1 spot on the Trending 140 after Taylor Swift posted a video on Instagram of the group singing the song backstage in Swift’s dressing room (along with newcomers Kelsea Ballerini and Rachel Platten). "Girl Crush" spends its sixth week at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

Miranda Lambert tops the Trending 140 with her new track "Roots and Wings," which was released on iTunes on May 26. The track originally debuted in January as part of a commercial for RAM trucks as an established partnership with Lambert.

"Roots" is her latest track to reach No. 1 on the Trending 140, after "Little Red Wagon." The year continues to be a strong one for the country star: Lambert won a Grammy for Best Country Album in February, and won three awards at the Academy of Country Music Awards including Album of the Year.  Lambert won Collaborative Video of the Year for her collaboration with Carrie Underwood, "Something Bad."

Luke Bryan announced his latest single "Kick the Dust Up" when visiting The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The track is the lead single from Bryan's upcoming album, Kill the Lights, which will debut on Aug. 7. The announcement caused the song to top the Trending 140, and reach No. 2 on Hot Country Songs.

The Trending 140 chart measures the acceleration of conversation around artists and their music, while the Emerging Artists chart measures the volume of tweets around new artists and their songs.
