Latrice Royale

Self-professed "chunky yet funky" drag queen Latrice Royale is having a big 2021. The RuPaul's Drag Race fan favorite turned a catchphrase from season 4 ("get these nuts away from my face!") that had RuPaul screaming with laughter into a career opportunity, recently landing an ad campaign with Squirrel Brand Artisan Nuts.

Capitalizing on the catchphrase just made sense – not only is Latrice forever linked to a joke about nuts, but a blend called "Ruby Royale" couldn't not involve Latrice Royale. It's also great exposure, with the campaign taking her to home shopping network QVC and giving her some shine during a time when in-person events -- typically the main source of a drag queen's income -- are on hold.

On her birthday, Latrice shared a playlist with Billboard of songs that always pump her up – songs she goes nuts for, if you will. "I tend to gravitate towards music with a message, that takes you on a journey through storytelling," Royale says. "Music that inspires and motivates is the key to captivating me. At the end of the day, it’s all food for the soul."

From Gladys Knight to Deborah Cox, here's what's soundtracking Latrice's life these days.

Ledisi, "Pieces of Me"
