Dwyane Wade, Zaya Wade and Gabrielle Union attend the Better Brothers Los Angeles 6th annual Truth Awards at Taglyan Complex on March 7, 2020 in Los Angeles.

Ever since NBA All Star Dwyane Wade appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and spoke about his daughter, Zaya, changing her pronouns to "she" and "her," the family has been inundated with both love from the LGBTQ community and hatred from bigots. But over the weekend, the family took a moment to celebrate.

On Sunday (March 8), Dwyane Wade shared a few photos of his daughter Zaya, dressed for her first-ever red carpet appearance at the 6th Annual Truth Awards, hosted by Better Brothers L.A., an organization dedicated to helping and creating safe spaces for black LGBTQ people.

Through one of his posts, Wade took a moment to let the world meet his daughter once again, this time on her own terms. "Everyone allow her to re-introduce herself her name is Zaya Wade," the star wrote on Instagram. "Last night was Zaya’s first red carpet and we couldn’t have been prouder of how she handled the questions that were asked of her. She has emerged as one of the young faces and voices for the LGBTQ+ community."

Wade was not the only member of the family to share about that experience. Gabrielle Union also took to her Instagram to share a number of posts thanking Better Brothers for having them at the event, and celebrating Zaya. "It was important for Zaya to be a part of such a beautiful night & reminding her of all the love & support she has. We were moved to tears so many times throughout the night," she wrote under one family photo. Under a video of Dwyane, Zaya and herself strutting in slow motion, she said "Stay put and stay mad if you want. We keep it pushing. Always."
