Openly queer Chicago rapper Kidd Kenn has already been making waves. At just age 16, Kenn has already amassed 118,000 followers on Instagram, performed onstage with hip-hop sensation Kehlani, and even headlined Red Bull Music’s Renaissance One Pride event earlier this year.

Now, the rapper is making further strides in his career. On Monday (July 29), the rising star shared a photo of himself on Instagram, revealing to his followers that he had just signed a major record deal with Island Records.

“I just wanna thank all my supporters and fans and everyone who rocked with me! I wanna let y’all know that i have signed with @islandrecords,” he wrote. “We made it here now it’s time to show TF OUT!”

The rapper did not share further details about his deal, but has been busy promoting his upcoming new music. In a recent interview with Teen Vogue, the rapper said that he plans to release his follow-up to 2018’s Childish by the end of the year. “I wanna keep the same mindset because it’s what got me here, but I’m starting to look at things more differently,” he said of his rising fame.
