Back in February, Kim Petras announced the end of what she called “Era 1” with the release of three new singles. Now, the 26-year-old princess of pop is ringing in the arrival of Era 2 with a brand new single.

On Thursday (April 25), Petras released her brand new single “Broken,” a moodier pop production than the singles of Era 1, where the star looks back on an ended relationship, and hopes that her former flame feels the same pain she does. “Pray to God/ That she leave you broken, broken/ Like you left me broken, broken,” she sings.

The track also introduces audiences to a new sound for Petras. While her signature pop melodies still permeate through the song, Petras experiments with some hip-hop and R&B sonic landscapes, introducing trap beats for the first time in her discography, while also utilizing some classic R&B phase shifting pianos.

Fans immediately jumped on board for Petras’ new sound, starting their own hashtag to promote awareness for the new track, #BuyBrokenOniTunes. After the hashtag began trending in the U.S., Petras added to the fun, sharing her own version of the hashtag, #BuyBrokenOniTunesLikeIts2009Challenge. “Bunheads u think we can get this shit to number 1?” she wrote.
