'Drag Race' All Star Alaska Announces New Pageant 'Drag Queen of the Year: A Pageant for Everyone'
From Miss Gay America to National Entertainer of the Year, the realm of drag is filled to the brim with pageants showcasing the talents of queens around the world. But a new pageant aims to find the best of the best, and include everyone in the process.
On Thursday (March 21), former RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars winner Alaska Thunderfuck announced her new pageant, “Drag Queen of the Year: A Pageant for Everyone,” aimed at being the most inclusive pageant to date. Taking place during this year’s RuPaul’s DragCon in Los Angeles, the event will select their crop of contestants from a pool of “millions” of performers, including drag kings, transgender artists, bio queens, and anyone else who wishes to perform.
“Judged upon the criteria of presence, energy, nuance, integrity and stunningness, this is a pageant for everyone,” Alaska said in a statement. “From first time performers to established pageant powerhouses, all are invited to compete for this coveted title.”
The winner of "Drag Queen of the Year" will win a crown, a sash, a bouquet of flowers and a cash prize of $10,000 which will be sent, as Alaska said on All Stars 2, via PayPal. Proceeds from the event’s charity auctions will be donated to the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
“Drag Queen of the Year: A Pageant for Everyone” will take place at the Montalban Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, May 26. Click here to get your tickets.
